In 2015, the United Nation’s General Assembly will review the World Summit on Information Society [WSIS] Implementation, as WSIS achieves its 10th anniversary. This review has already benefitted from UNESCO, ITU, and CSTD contributions, and now, the UN General Assembly [UNGA] is set to evaluate its progress and decide its future for how WSIS and Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs] will merge or co-exist in the post 2015 development agenda. The UNGA has, via its resolution 68/302 defined the outlines for the process of inclusion of stakeholders in the WSIS +10 Review. This process includes opportunities to engage in both substantive online contributions and in person with stakeholders.
IGF-USA WSIS+10/Internet governance for post 2015 session is a town hall approach that hears from experts in brief statements, and then engages in a 60 minute town hall session providing feedback on the WSIS+10 Review document, the UNESCO Connecting the Dots Study, the ITU facilitated Outcomes Document from high level event, and on other aspects of engagement in the WSIS +10 processes.
ABOUT THE IGF-USA
The Internet Governance Forum was created to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue. Each year, leading up to the IGF, various national and regional IGFs tee up multi-stakeholder dialogues on a broad range of Internet policy issues. These discussions help to shape the ongoing policy discussions at the global IGF. Each region brings with it unique perspectives on how they have dealt with important policy concerns and can offer best practices on how to approach these issues to the global community. The Washington DC Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC-DC) serves as the IGF Secretariat. ISOC-DC strives to promote open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of people worldwide. ISOC-DC brings together individuals from within the DC area, as well as abroad, to engage in events, discussions, and information exchanges to advance these goals.
