Why aren’t my prayers being answered?

Are you living rightly? Is there unrepentant sin in your life? Are you keeping his commandments?

1 John 3:21-23 - Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.

James addresses this too concerning calling the elders for prayer for physical healing.

The confession of sin and the absolution proclamation of sin are to come before the prayer and for the answering of the prayer…
Are you praying in faith? Are you praying with doubts?

James 1:6-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Is what you are asking for in accordance with God’s will?

1 John 5:14-15 - This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Not giving us what we are asking for, even when what we ask is in accordance with God’s will, might be what is best for us.

Paul’s example:

2 Corinthians 12: 7 -10 - in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

This means that when we are asking for something that is in accordance with God’s will, in accordance with God’s name, the answer the answer might be no. And when it is no, it is best to understand the answer as “I got something better for you.” I’ll pick up on this later, but for now I want to emphasize that…
Regardless of the answers we are to keep praying.

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 – “pray without ceasing, 18 xgive thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
The answer might have been yes the moment you prayed, but you don’t get the answer until a later time.
